Although the weather has been very unpredictable this August, the popularity of our summer outings has been secure.

With the financial support from The Big Lottery Fund and Leatherhead Community Association we were able to hire a 53 seater coach for the first three Thursdays in August and cover entry fees to different attractions. We visited Drusillas Park in Sussex, Hobbledown Farm in Epsom and Brighton.

For many families & individuals the summer holidays can feel quite daunting trying to plan some fun days out and ensure the children aren’t bored. Many of the families we come alongside struggle to afford daily living costs and would find it very hard to take the whole family out for the day. This is especially difficult when there is no car. For a family of 4 to visit Drusillas, it would cost them £70 plus any extras during the day. Most of families who came on the summer outings had a minimum of three children so to be able to provide the transport and cover the entry fees meant so much to people. We’re already being asked about next summer!

It’s very rare that we are able to get away for a day as a community but it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring us all together and take a break from the various pressures. We would love to do this more often, it’s wonderful for community morale.

“Brighton was fantastic, the best day in a long time. Our little group haven’t laughed so much in ages. It was a big boost after feeling low”

“Can we go again next week? Can’t wait to go back next year!”

“Drusillas was amazing, a fantastic day. My son loved it. I would never have been able to afford this so it was a real treat.”

“Despite the rain at Hobbledown, the children had a brilliant time. It was a big relief to know the entry fees were covered.”
