At the beginning of the year we made the difficult decision to take a years break from our caravan holiday scheme. We needed time to review the project and assess the impact on families if we didn’t offer holidays. We didn’t want to leave our families without a substitute over the summer holidays so we decided to plan various day trips throughout August.
We asked our families where they would like to go and decided on three different trips to London Zoo, Tilgate Park in Crawley and Brighton. We packed the coach of 53 seats every time and it was a great success. It was fantastic to take our Leatherhead community out and away for a day of fun. The feedback was so great we know we must do this more often. We often spend quality time with the mums and their young children in the shop but don’t often get to spend time with the whole family. It was great to meet the husbands and partners and spend time with the children who are normally in school.
This was all possible because the American Women of Surrey were very generous fundraising for us. It was wonderful to have been able to cover all the costs from the hiring the coach to hiring boats at Tilgate Park and also buying ice creams at London Zoo. Thank you very much AWS!!
With a sigh of sadness we’ve decided to sell our caravan and brainstorm other creative ways we can support families to have time away together. Although challenging at times, it has been a brilliant 7 years and we’re thrilled to have supplied over 200 holidays!
